There is no debate, every mezza must include hummus dip. We're pretty sure that is the law in Lebanon, but if it's not, we think it should be. Hummus is easy and fun to make, and it only requires a few ingredients. This recipe gives you the basics of the classic hummus dip, but feel free to experiment and have fun.

Ingredients
1 can garbanzo beans
1/3 tsp salt
3 tbsp tahini
1 clove garlic
2 tbsp lemon juice
3 tbsp water
-
A drizzle of extra virgin olive oil
Steps
Rinse garbanzo beans with warm water
Crush garlic with salt (best if with mortar and pestle)
Add garbanzo beans, crushed garlic and salt, lemon juice, tahini, and water to blender
Blend on high for 3 minutes or until the texture is consistently smooth and creamy
Garnish with paprika, parsley, and pine nuts
Drizzle with extra virgin olive oil
Serve with carrots and celery, or pita bread if desired

Recipe Note
For flavor, we recommend garnishing your hummus with a hot spice like paprika and/or fresh herbs like parsley or scallions. To add texture and protein, add rinsed whole garbanzo beans, pine nuts, or even sautéed ground beef.
